Short bio:
Stewart French is a British musician, filmmaker and mathematician based in London, UK.
He read mathematics at Cambridge and music at the Royal Academy of Music before beginning his career at Lazard in investment banking (M&A). In 2008 he won the Deutsche Bank Award to found Draft Audio Research – a set of production tools for independent classical artists – which he commercialised as Draft Audio Production from 2011-17. He developed his 8MG adult guitar method through teaching at the Royal Holloway University of London, Clifford Chance and King’s College School, licensing it to Penguin Life for mass-market adaptation in 2017. During 2010-12 he worked with composer Tarik O’Regan on two new long-form guitar commissions which he toured around the UK, Ireland and the USA and recorded for Harmonia Mundi USA. From 2012-14 he toured with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Chroma and Tetra Quartet performing with Juan Diego Florez and Dame Felicity Palmer amongst others. In 2015 he founded the Fly On The Wall production company and classical music video format, a grass-roots brand project distributed by ClassicFM. Recent commissioners include the V&A, Naxos, Apple Music, the British Library and the Science Museum.
He holds an MA in mathematics from Clare College Cambridge, a PGDip & DipRAM from the Royal Academy of Music, an ARCM from the Royal College of Music and the Certificate in Corporate Finance from the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.
